Hi Don,

I hope you are doing well. Will you please forward the message below to our team?
Thanks so much,
Coop

Team USA,

I hope you are doing well and have settled back into life here in the States. I wanted to send a quick email saying thank you to all of you boys and parents. This was one of the best collection of young men I have ever been associated with. It was an absolute pleasure to coach you, tour with you, and just get to know you in general. Parents, a very

sincere thank you for all of your support throughout this trip. I had high expectations of this trip to Israel and you all helped exceed those

expectations. I hope I was able to do the same for you. Please keep in touch with me and let me know how you're doing, and if there is anything

I can do for you. I look forward to hearing great things from you, and again, thank you so much for all of the wonderful memories!!!

All the best,
Coop

Brian Schwartz save against Mexico

Home Sweet Home...

I am now back home... transferring pictures onto Matt's computer. It was a great two weeks for me (and month for Matt) and Iwant to thank all of the parents who shared this experience as well as the boys for their determination and hard play.

Approximate Playoff Results

I was not sure of every score but this is about right. And this produces a great Trivia Question:

Q: "Who won the Silver Medal in the Youth-Men's Football at the 2009 Maccabiah Games?"

A: No one.

Medal Ceremony

Matt said that Israel was given Gold, Mexico Bronze, and that no Silver was awarded.

We finished 4th?...nope still 6th

It turns out that both Argentina and Russia were expelled due to the fight after their game.  They are also barred from attending the 2013 games. Israel gets the automatic Gold, Mexico Silver. I am guessing the GB will get the Bronze (or their won't be a Bronze). The story was reported in today's Jerusalem post.

PK #10

The final pk shot being saved in the girl's final. For those of you who missed it, the girl's final was 2-1 Canada in OT, PK's. The PK's went 10 kicker's deep with a score of 8-7. USA had the winning opportunities on the 5th and 8th Kickers, but both times the Canadian keeper made the save.

2-0 GB on a counter and wide open shot from about 18 out

20 minutes left. Still GB 1-0.

Water break and we will surely sub a few and see if we can find joy in the back of the GB net.

Re: GB 1 - USA 0

I have been told it was a hand ball called and do not think it was the right call.

Ryan has had two good shots on goal but both were met with great stops, one by a GB defenders outstretched leg on the goal line in behind the keeper.

USA - GB

0-0 at half time in the game being played for 5th.  Although there is some intrigue in that a fist fight broke out at the Russia-Argentina semi... So is a double DQ possible?

Sorry no postings along the way, but I have 90 percent of the game on video and will post it to you tube and then to the blog.

Semi Finalists

Quarters
Israel defeated Sweden
Mexico defeated USA
Russia defeated GB
Argenta defeated Canada

Semis
Mexico v Israel
Russia v Argentian

Consolations
USA v Sweden
GB v Canada

Tomorrow 9AM v Sweden

Final 3-1

Had a late goal and we attacked the whole second half with Mexico playing 7 back and comfortable sitting in and letting the USA play through a sea of Green and White.

3-0 at half

Can it be a tale of two halves?  Maybe an early goal in the second half could get us going.  We looked flat in the first and could not have played much worse.  So the optimist in me says that the second half will be much better.  I expect Mexico will sit in a bit, so maybe we can get an early bounce.

3-0 Mexico

2-0 Mexico

#17 again. On a free kick from 25 out connecting to him.  Again a significant defensive lapse.

Free kick from a charge by USA after a throw that the line judge called for USA and then ref gave to Mexico.

1-0 Mexico

Scores on sleepy defensively play after sloppy midfield. #17 for Mexico scores low shot to far corner from 20 out.

Quarters

Israel is winning 4-1 over Sweden.  The game was close for the first half' but Sweden had no answer for #8 - Israel's speedy forward.  Israel is sure to go through and meet the winner of our game against Mexico.

More on Israel's style of play later.

Argentina has had there way with Canada. The score is 5-0 and all or Argentina's starters are resting.

In half an hour we play Mexico and Russia takes on GB.

Israel plays a 3-5-2 with very little attention to defending the flank and a lot of attention to quick counter attacks through their three inside midfielders either onetiming balls to the outside midfielders making flag runs or through to their speedy forwards - especially #8.  Every attack is at full speed and not from a build up, rather from immediate assault through their midfielders.  They hold their 5 midfielders very high (rarely offering help from the outside midfielders.  Then they release the ball quickly to them and attack.

If there is a vulnerability it is either with patience in our geting 8 or 9 behind the ball and for our center mids winning balls and either playing back for a buildup or  playing outside up top where Israel concedes the field.

Of course, first, let's beat Mexico.  Go USA!

We got the best possible opponent in the semis playing Mexico at Wingate Dromi 1 at 1800 or 6pm.  Win against Mexico most likely puts us against Israel in Semi’s at 4pm on Monday.  Israel plays Sweden in their quarterfinals.

Thanks, Michael.  This is great so we can have a personal site but Stephanie Sorkin of Maccabi told me the following

"We (Maccabi) will also have highlights and results available at www.maccabiusa.com under sports explorer. Also, the photography staff is working on posting individual and team pictures on the site as well.

Jltv.tv will have a live stream available to download to view the games, it should be easy to connect with the site."

USA v Mexico

Game is at 6PM.  Great draw for the USA team.

...chances not finished

Tie Gets Us Through!

Should have won...

Pretty Good...

We are going through...

Red Card... that's all I can say!

1-1

Final.

... This puts us through to the quarters, but in the bottom half of the bracket, as Sweden has six points and second place in one bracket. If no one from the five team bracket knocks Sweden into the bottom half with us, then the bottom half will include us, Canada, and two teams from the five-team group.

Neither of the teams from the five-team group can be paired with Isreal in the quarters, so in this scenario only Canada or the US could draw Israel; i.e., it is 50-50 that we get them in the quarters.

Right now it appears that three teams have six points in the Israel group, but two of those three (Mexico and South Africa) got three of their points from 0-3 Holland and will likely have to give those points back. South Africa has a game remaining against Israel, while Mexico plays France(1-2). France's win does not count either, sit it is against Holland, so if it wins or ties against Mexico, then there will likely be no six point team in that group. All bets are off, of course, in the event SA beats Israel.

Phil Anderson (departing for Tel Aviv with Laurie Kauffman tomorrow)

what r the results of the us vs. ca game?

some one please post the results or send out an email!

Observations on GB-Canada game

GB had the better of play for extended periods had Canada scrambling in the box.  But for shots wide, the goal posts, and mostly outstanding play from the Canadian keeper, the score could have been 5-0.

But as we all know it can be hard to score in soccer and so the game remained 0-0 until the 85th minute.  GB scored its first goal on a free kick from about 40 out. It was a high lofted ball that landed on the box.  The Canadian keeper did not catch it and then mis judged the height of the bounce and it bounced over his head and rolled into the net.

The second goal came from the Canadians getting caught up field and GB counter attacked and scored easily with some tic tac toe passes to beat the final defender and keeper.

Canada was not without opportunities, but like our game most came off of free kicks. And early in the game from direct play from the defenders to forwards.

GB began in a 3-4-3 but in the second half went to a 2-3-4-1. And after that Canada's midfield could not hold the ball. Both halves GB sat in picking up defense at 2/3 or half field. Usually applying defensive pressure just beyond midfield but never as far up as the offensive third.

The right back for Canada #21 is the weakest of the group and made many poor decisions with the ball especially when under pressure.  He tired quickly and has poor touch. We should find some advantage there.

Their left back is stronger and in the first half was the source of the long ball attacks as they played direct from the back line to the forwards.

Canada's talent drops off signifcantly past the second sub.

By the middle of the second half Canada lost all shape in their spacing on the field - a sign that they lacked the fitness to keep up with GB.  While GB stayed strong and thus poured it on until they finally broke through.

GB beat Canada 2-0.

Goals scored in the last 5 minutes.

Still 0-0 late in the GB Canada game

GB pouring it on but Canada's goalie and the goal posts and GB's wide shots keeping Canada in it.

Stretching out after 8-0 over Germany
